Headshot Photography In The Northern Quarter Manchester

Michelle at Hiring Hub contacted me as a Headshot Photographer Manchester, to produce some headshot photography of the team, for their website. I’d worked for the company a time or two before and knew that the layout of the office wouldn’t be practical, and some staff members would be compromised slightly in terms of equipment and general ‘mither’. So, we decided to make it very Manchester by shooting the headshot photography in the Northern Quarter - literally, in the alleyway opposite the office. It doesn’t get much more Manchester than this. Parts of the Northern Quarter look like old New York, and this alleyway was perfect for the project, with it’s red brickwork. The whole shoot was completed in less than an hour, all taken on one camera with an 85mm lens, to blur the backgrounds and make the person ‘stand out’ in the photos. Available Light Portraits In Manchester

We used no lighting at all on the headshots, so everything was shot with available light on a typical overcast Manchester day. Yes, it was threatening to rain but held off. These available light portraits in Manchester were all shot on manual, so the whole shoot matched. The composition of the images was deliberately central, so we have leading lines, and perspective running through the photos, adding a little drama to an otherwise ordinary background. Camera files were all batch processed to give a film-like feel to the location-based Headshot Photographer Manchester project. I stayed in the alleyway as the team members took their turn in coming down from the office and across the road. Each portrait took around two minutes. No preparations, no vanity mirrors, no choosing outfits to wear either. Heck, we even let the wind blow on a couple of them too, just to add even more of an ‘edge’.

This project as a Headshot Photographer Manchester was brilliant fun. Raw, gritty and very uncommercial. It works a treat, and breaks many rules in headshot and portrait photography too.
